As I’ve said before, the need for change doesn’t sleep or wait for the perfect time. It also won’t wait for you to be prepared (or ready) to lead.
Over the past decade, a lot of people have become certified, completed formal training or obtained a credential specific to the field of change management (myself included).
My experience is that most changemakers in organizations do not have a credential or certification in that particular discipline. Most of them also don’t have a job title or role description that calls “change” out either.
But it is absolutely part of what they have to do. It’s often unofficial and possibly invisible to others.
If this is you, you might be trying to juggle this part of your role off the corner of your desk (it may be a tiny corner), you probably have minimal support with it, and it’s an everyday, all the time challenge.
You’re not alone. I’ve been in your shoes and have worked with many in the same situation.
Remember that everything that you’re trying to do to help change happen, is a step in the right direction. It may feel imperfect or insufficient at times, and that’s okay. Change is hard.
Even those of us who have spent time and effort developing our capabilities through learning and practice, still face feelings of uncertainty, inadequacy and discomfort.
Changemakers are everywhere, and they come in all forms. Let’s all be thankful for that because we need them.
The people in your workplace need you.
No credential. No problem.
Hold your head high and keep the faith.
With a positive mindset, a solid set of skills, and a willingness to get help, you can do this.
Have a great weekend!
