“But I’ve got real sh*t to do!”
I’ve heard or felt this sentiment all too often, from managers, employees, teammates, and colleagues. Clients too.
Digging in their heels when it’s time to execute on some of the ‘people-y” change leadership stuff. They don’t have time – yes, it’s super important but they can’t swing it now. Maybe later.
I get it.
You’re already overwhelmed with demands and don’t have time to do some of the “softer” stuff to break through challenges, help people to prepare, or just be a leader.
That TPS Report won’t present itself!
But here’s the thing… The need to be a leader isn’t only sometimes, it’s all the time. It’s not just for special projects. It’s for everyday.
So take those things that we say you need to do (or do better) in times of change (communicate, engage, teach, support) and do them well all the time.
Yes, it requires some investment of time and energy on your part, but it will lead to better outcomes, a higher performing team and people will feel better in your workplace.
These days, you have to find ways to be both a manager who gets stuff done and a leader who inspires the team to move toward new places.
Make that part of the “real sh*t” you always have to do.
Everyone will thank you.
Have a great week!
