Filling pitchers

Many years ago, my wife shared one of the best insights I’ve ever received. I still think about it almost daily.

It’s about pitchers.

(the margarita kind, not baseball)

It goes something like this.

Our life can be represented by a pitcher, the contents of which are our energy, fulfillment, and spirit.

As we go about each day, we use what we have to fill other people’s pitchers. We do this at work, at home, at a coffee shop… everywhere. And as we do that, our pitcher gets drained.

The people in our life have the potential to fill our pitcher too. They’re everywhere – family, friends, co-workers, and even strangers on a train. And there are also some who deplete it.

While it’s important that we have ways to replenish our own, it’s even more important to be aware of how we affect someone else’s pitcher.

And then be conscious about trying to fill it.

Have a great week!
