Practice over theory

I’m annoyed. I saw a post today that was pointing out that communication does not equal change management.

I’m tired of content like that. Leaders don’t need more theory.

I want to help leaders because change is f*cking hard.

I don’t care whether they do or do not understand the theory of change management. I really don’t.

It’s my job to figure out where they are and to help them there.

I’m happy that researchers, academics, and strategists continue to build knowledge in this field. But regular folks need stuff they can use in their real life.

What I care about is for leaders to recognize that change is hard and that attention needs to be given to the things that will help to drive understanding, adoption, and ultimately, value from the investments being made to grow, transform, improve or evolve.

Change is happening everywhere, so it’s not just for people who have specific training, knowledge and experiences as “change managers,” to be the drivers.

In fact, it’s mostly people NOT like that.

I advocate for small steps that every leader can start to implement, right now, that will improve their chances of success, so they don’t waste resources and lose people (literally and figuratively) because change is so difficult.

It’s change o’clock everywhere.

Have a great weekend!
