Positive. Patient. Persistent.

“It’s not about me. It never was.”

The writers of Ted Lasso get it.

In the past week, I’ve attended two virtual sessions, one hosted in the UK, the other in the US.

Both used examples featuring Ted Lasso.

In fact, the UK event was completely about lessons we can learn from the show.

Like Ted, many of us are dropped into situations where someone thinks we have the required skill set, but no one else does.

We’re new. We’re from somewhere else. Where? Not here. That’s all that matters. We’re an unknown quantity.

We have to start somewhere. What do we know about Ted?

He is patient.

He is persistent.

He is positive.

He leverages those three important characteristics constantly. It’s not necessarily sequential or linear either. It’s more fluid than that.

It’s part of who he is.

If you aspire to be a great leader, coach, advisor, teacher, and any number of roles, you’ll need to exhibit all three of these consistently too.

If you’re struggling to make connections and break through with people at work, try to marshal those three Ps.

Persistence. Patience. Positivity.

Spend some time learning and honing these wherever you are right now.

I know it’s TV, but if you’re not learning from Ted Lasso, who are you learning from?

Have a great day!
